This copy of Agnel's Book of Chess was originally owned by Azor S. Marvin Jr., Brigadier-General Stephen Weed's Adjutant (ranked variously at 1st Lieutenant and Captain, ultimately mustering out as a Colonel) and the man who rode at the lead of Weed's brigade up to Little Round Top at the Battle of Gettysburg.  He purchased it in 1857, and apparently read it during his exploits in the Civil War.
