A 19th century English-carved full figural ivory set representing a medieval European royal court, king and queen in elaborately carved robes, with fleur-de-lis wearing crown and coronet, one king holding an orb, bishops in full flowing robse with rounded mitres, knights in fifteenth century armor, rooks as Romanesque castles, pawns holding spears and swords, the medieval court on each side carved differently. Kings are 4.5 inches, pawns 3.5 inches. This set was featured in the January-April 1904 issue of Connoisseur Magazine.
