French 19th Century Ivory Chess Set on the theme "Field of the Cloth of Gold"

Jon's main chess page

A "Field of the Cloth of Gold" themed set, with King Henry VIII versus Francis I. The Queens also have historically accurate resemblances to Catherine of Aragon and Queen Claude.

The Field of the Cloth of Gold or Camp du Drap d'Or is the name given to a place in Balinghem, between Guînes and Ardres, in France, near Calais, that was the site of a meeting that took place from 7 June to 24 June 1520, between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France. [Wikipedia]

King size 12.7 cm. The carving has excellent character and is now also included in my webpage Jon's Favorite Sets.
