French late 19th carved ivory Figural Chess Set, depicting one side the late-16th century well liked French Huguenot Protestant King Henry the Fourth holding a chicken after his famous statement ”If God spares me, I will ensure that there is no working man in my kingdom who does not have the means to have a chicken in the pot every Sunday”; his Queen, courtiers, knights and kneeling soldiers against the Catholic King Philip Second of Spain with his entourage. All on light and dark hardwood bases. King 4 inches high.
