Indian chess set of bone, of the Maharaja of Chatapur near Khajuraho. The pieces are lacquered in a very thick coating, showing embossed designs dusted with gold. King: 10.8 cm and 11.0 cm.

The Hindu figures, the red side, have figural representations ,while the green Moslem side show floral designs. Red King inscription: Maharaja Bharat Singhji, Chatapur (name of the owner and his capital). No inscription on the Green King. Date: Samvat 1920 = 1864 AD. Board: textile embroidered with silver wire and border trim; 62.0 x 65.0 cm.
