Late 18th-Century or Early 19th-Century "Good Versus Evil" Ivory Chess Set
This Good-Versus-Evil ivory chess set was probably made in Florence Italy, circa 1800. I am aware of only four or five sets of this type in the world. The Kings are 5.25".
The White pieces represent the forces of good, opposing the Red forces of evil. Originally the set had a matching board, which no longer exists, but the four ivory carved boardholders are present, as shown in one of the photos.
