Jon's main chess page
A very early, tournament-sized, Boxwood and Ebony Staunton Anderssen-style chess set manufactured by Jaques of London in the mid 19th century.   The King stands 3.5" tall with 1.6" diameter base. The White King is inscribed "Jaques London" on the rim of of the base. The chessmen are unweighted and the bases are covered in the original green Baize. The summits of the Kingside Rooks and Kingside Knights are incised with a King's crown to designate a Kingside piece. The White King bears the trademark "Jaques London" marking.
