A very rare 17th century book, not known for its analytical content, but of significant importance at the time of its publication. Per Murray: "The patronage of good players by the wealthier nobles and clergy was a great feature of the chess-life of the period, and many allusions are made to the custom in the pages of Salvio and Carrera, the two writers to whom we owe a great deal of our knowledge of the chess history of the years 1560-1630."

Published in Militello, 1617; 4to. 556pp. + 42 leaves + 2 leaves. This copy has a somewhat damaged title page, but it is still a very rare and important acquisition.
