Willard Fiske wrote, among other things, the book of the First American Chess Congress in 1857. He was a chessplayer of modest standing. Professionally he was the Cornell University Librarian, and was also involved in The Great Will Case involving his wife's bequest to the University after her death in 1881. This book documents chess in Iceland from medieval times to the time of the book's authorship in 1905. |
