This custom-made Jaques ivory set is considered by one of the world's top Jaques experts to have likely been Howard Staunton's own set. The set is immense - King size 5.25". If the attribution is correct, then this set is circa 1855.

After careful study, my opinion of this set has evolved. Absent any tangible evidence, I am skeptical of any direct linkage to Howard Staunton. The dating of the set is also debatable, as is the attribution to Jaques, in spite of the King's stamp.
